Crispy baked BBQ tofu is easy to make, delicious, and satisfying. It is made with everyday ingredients, perfect for summer BBQ parties.

Units Scale
  • 400 g extra-firm tofu
  • 120 ml BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp soya sauce
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

  1. Firstly, press the tofu. Place the block of tofu on a plate lined with paper towels. Put another layer of paper towels on top of the tofu, followed by a heavy object like a cast-iron skillet or a few cans. Press the tofu for about 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the tofu: Once pressed, cut the tofu into cubes or slices, depending on your preference.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet.
  4. Coat the tofu: In a mixing bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch, vegetable oil, soya sauce, and garlic powder until evenly coated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Arrange the tofu on the baking sheet.
  6. Bake the tofu: Bake the tofu in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  7. Coat the tofu with BBQ sauce. Pour the sauce over the tofu and gently toss until it is coated evenly. Bake it for another 5-10 minutes until the BBQ sauce caramelizes and becomes sticky.

To achieve the perfect crispy texture when baking tofu, it's crucial to press it beforehand to remove excess moisture.
